Helwit Strawberry, summer in a white can
Walk past a pick your own field in June and that smell is what Helwit Strawberry is going for. It is the strawberry can in Helwit's Regular line, the 4.5mg tier in the middle of the brand, and like every Helwit it is made by YOIK AB at its own factory at Gransholm, a short way out of Växjö in southern Sweden. The lid is the brand's white target with the rings in the flavour's colour, the name curved over the top and Nicotine 3/4 in small type near the bottom, which is the maker's own strength mark for this tier. Here's the thing. There is no mint and no second fruit in here. It is strawberry and nothing else, no messing about.
Sweet strawberry with nothing in its way
Pop one in and it is ripe strawberry straight away, sweet and soft, the kind you get from a punnet left in the sun rather than a jar of jam. There is a light juiciness to it that keeps the sweetness from sitting heavy, and the flavour holds steady through the load. It does not sharpen, it does not cool, and nothing else turns up halfway through. The finish is gentle, the sweetness fading off slowly rather than stopping dead. A single fruit, done plainly, and proper summer with it. Fair play to it.
