Black by name, tutti frutti by nature
Here's the thing about Iceberg Ultra Black: the name is the colour of the lid, not the taste. Open it expecting liquorice or something dark and you get the opposite, a sweet mixed fruit gum, the sort the brand itself labels Fruity Gum. It is a 56mg can from the Ultra line, the top rung of Iceberg's own ladder, and it comes from Iceberg Tobacco, a company based in Warsaw. The lid is black with ULTRA printed across the top, the polygon bear head above the ICEBERG wordmark, and blue flames around the bottom. A serious looking can with a sweet shop inside it.
Pineapple, orange, apricot and apple, chewed together
The flavour is the tutti frutti chewing gum from the corner shop, the pink and yellow one, and it tastes that way from the first pouch to the last. The brand lists pineapple, orange, apricot and apple in the mix, and that is roughly the order they turn up: tropical and bright first, then a rounder orchard sweetness behind it. It is sweet rather than sharp, with no mint and no sour edge to interrupt. Through the load the gum character stays put, soft and chewy in the way it reads, while the 56mg gets on with its business underneath. Proper sweet. Proper strong.
