Ask at the counter for a Nordic Spirit that tastes like the green gum and Spearmint is the one that gets handed over. Nordic Spirit is a JTI brand, created in Sweden in 2018 and on UK shelves since 2019, and Spearmint is one of its two Dry cans, which is the label the pack carries. This is the 9mg version, sold as Strong on the lid. Where the brand's plain Mint runs menthol and peppermint, Spearmint goes sweeter and softer, with crisp menthol freshness behind it. Here's the thing. It is the gentle mint in snus terms, and the number behind it is a proper one.
Sweet spearmint up front, crisp menthol freshness behind
The first thing you get is the spearmint, sweet and rounded, the flavour of the green packet at the newsagent's till. A beat later the menthol arrives, crisp rather than icy, and it stays behind the sweetness rather than over it. The Dry range is made with a drier feel, and the maker says that gives a bold flavour release, so the spearmint stands up straight from the start and holds its shape across the load. The pouch is a soft white one, made from plant based fibre and gum base. The finish is clean and fresh, no sugar, no sticky end. Proper spearmint.
