The dark cherry can from XQS
Walk into any newsagent and the cherry sweets are the ones that go first, and XQS Black Cherry is the snus version of that. It comes from XQS, a Swedish brand sitting inside Scandinavian Tobacco Group, one the maker dates back to 2005 in Jämtland. The brand runs one range rather than a ladder of named editions, so every can is a flavour and a number. This is its dark fruit can: cherry, nothing stacked on top, 8mg a pouch. Here's the thing. Of all the XQS fruit cans on our shelf, this is the one with the deepest flavour, and it is happy to let the cherry do the talking.
Cherry Bakewell depth, from first pouch to last
The cherry here is the ripe, dark sort, not the bright red glacé one. It opens rich and sweet, the way the filling of a proper cherry Bakewell does, with a slight tart note underneath that the maker's own notes mention and which keeps it from getting sticky. The sweetness sits forward for the first stretch of the load, then the tartness comes through as the drip settles, so the back half tastes a touch sharper than the front. It does not drift into anything else. Cherry at the start, cherry at the finish. Fair play to it.
