XQS The Menthol, the coldest of the three
Some people want a mint snus that tastes of mint, and some want menthol, which is a different thing, colder and sharper. XQS The Menthol is for the second lot. XQS is a Swedish brand. Scandinavian Tobacco Group has owned it since 2023, and the maker traces it to 2005 in Jämtland. Alongside its fruit cans the brand makes three mint cans named The Spearmint, The Peppermint and, coldest of the three, The Menthol. The lid shows five bars of six and reads 11 MG, so it tells you what it is before you open it.
January air in a slim pouch
Pop one in and the menthol gets going straight away, a clean icy lift that spreads across the gum the way the cold air hits you stepping out of the newsagent on a January morning. There is no sweetness to speak of. It is sharp from the first second, and the maker's own notes say it stays sharp without tipping into harshness, which is about right. Through the load the cold holds steady rather than fading, and the drip stays clean. No fruit, no sugar, no second act. Menthol, and plenty of it.
