XQS The Peppermint, the middle mint
Ask for a straight peppermint snus at the counter and XQS The Peppermint is one of the first cans that comes down. XQS is Swedish, owned by Scandinavian Tobacco Group, and the maker puts its start at 2005 in Jämtland. The brand's fruit cans get most of the attention, but it also makes three mint cans, The Spearmint at 6mg, The Menthol at 11mg and this one, the middle of them in every sense: the middle flavour, the middle number. Peppermint, 10mg a pouch, and no fruit anywhere near it.
Extra strong mint snap, rounded off
Peppermint leads with a clear, bright snap, the sort you get from the first sweet out of a packet of extra strong mints, only rounder. There is a subtle smoothness behind it, so the cool never turns sharp, and the maker's own description has the cooling building to a crisp, tidy finish, which is exactly what happens. Through the load the peppermint stays the same shape, clean and even, and the drip is clean with it. Nothing arrives late and nothing drops out early. Crisp at the start, crisp at the end. Fair play to it.
10mg a pouch between Spearmint and Menthol
