Black Ice, the black can at the top of SNU's ladder
Every SNU can on the shelf is white with a coloured band, except this one. Black Ice comes in a black can, and it is the one flavour the brand sells at Xtra High only, so it has no 9mg, 12mg or 18mg rungs beneath it. It is a mint, a very cold one, the brand's own words being an icy blast of mint that is as cold as it gets. The lid carries SNÜ with the two dots, BLACK ICE in capitals, a tab reading 60MG PER GRAM, six filled dots followed by an X, the words XTRA HIGH, and a red stamp that says XTRA STRONG USE RESPONSIBLY. Here's the thing. That 60 on the lid is per gram. In the pouch it is 45mg, and that is the number to go by.
Cold, clean mint that stays cold to the last pouch
Pop one in and the mint is cold straight away, the cold of stepping out of the pub into a January night with the wind up. It is clean and sharp rather than sweet, with a menthol chill that spreads across the gum and settles in. There is no fruit and no second note, just the mint and the ice. The cooling holds at the same level right through the load, so the end of the pouch feels like the start. It finishes clean, with the chill still sitting there after the pouch is out.
