Tropical Punch, mango and pineapple, at the top of SNU's climb
Ask what is in a tropical punch and most people shrug and say fruit. SNU can tell you exactly: mango and pineapple, two fruits, nothing else in the jug. SNU Tropical Punch 45mg is the fruit can from the brand's Xtra High line, the last of its four strengths and a long way above the 18mg High can under it. The strength tab on the lid says 60MG PER GRAM rather than a per pouch number, the six dots are all filled with an X on the end, XTRA HIGH sits beneath, and a red stamp reads XTRA STRONG USE RESPONSIBLY. You will not find a 45 on the can. The brand gives the strength per gram, and that works out at 45mg in each pouch, the figure on our shelf. Same punch, very different lid.
Ripe mango, bright pineapple, right through the load
Mango comes first, ripe and smooth, with the depth of the good tinned mango rather than the fruit salad kind. Then the pineapple cuts across it, juicy and sharp, and lifts the whole thing so it never turns syrupy. The two share the pouch evenly from there, and because SNU uses the same flavour at every rung, it is the taste anyone on the 9mg, 12mg or 18mg will know. The finish is tangy, pineapple having the last word, and the flavour holds from the first pouch to the twentieth. A clear two fruit punch. Fair play to it.
