Every shelf has one can that people pick up just to ask about, and on the Fumi shelf it is Salty Violet. It comes from the Standard line, the Swedish brand's 4mg rung, and it is one of two cans Fumi calls Salty, which is the brand's word for its liquorice pairings. Fumi is made in Sweden by Helix Sweden AB and the pouches are tobacco free. This one puts violet, the floral flavour from the little paper rolls of sweets, over a liquorice base. A proper old school combination in a slim white pouch.
Floral violet first, dry liquorice behind, start to finish
The violet is the first thing you notice, sweet and floral, the taste of the purple sweets from the bottom of a pick and mix bag. The liquorice sits under it, dry and savoury, and stops the violet getting too perfumed. Together they land somewhere between a sweet shop and a Scandinavian newsagent, and they stay there for the whole load. Nothing drops out early. It finishes clean, with the liquorice lingering just behind the violet. Fair play to it, it is a flavour with real character.
