Here's the thing about Helwit Menthol: the name on the lid may not say Menthol. The maker has renamed this can Peppermint, same flavour and same strength, so depending on the batch you may get a lid that reads HELWIT PEPPERMINT with Nicotine 4/4 printed below it. Either way it is the same can. It is the cold mint in Helwit's Strong line, the top of the brand's three tiers, and the maker describes it as the bigger, colder relation of its 3.5mg Mint. YOIK AB makes it in Småland, at its own plant at Gransholm just outside Växjö. One mint, one job, no messing about.
Peppermint cold, menthol colder, clean to the end
Pop one in and the cold is out of the can before the mint is. It is peppermint and menthol together, crisp and sharp, the chill you get walking out of a warm pub into a January night. The peppermint carries the flavour and the menthol does the cooling, and neither one lets go through the load. There is a touch of sweetness underneath that stops it feeling harsh, which is the same trick the lighter Helwit Mint pulls, only here the cold is turned up. The finish is clean and cool, with no fruit and no second act. Proper cold mint. Fair play to it.
